Dominic Lucero

Dominic Lucero (August 28, 1967 — July 1, 1994) was a Spanish-American actor, dancer and singer. He was born in Orange County, California, one of four children and with one older brother and two younger sisters.
In the early days of his stage career, he starred in a number of stage productions including: ''Chorus Line'', ''The Pajama Game'', and ''Grease''. This then led him on to dance with artists such as Michael Jackson on his ''Bad'' tour, and Paula Abdul in various shows and videos, including her "Cold Hearted" video, the ''Arsenio Hall'' show, ''American Music Awards'', and ''The Tracey Ullman Show''. In 1991 Dominic took part in a dancing competition called Star Search in which his dancing group eventually went on to win. At about the same time, the group called New World from Star Search - who'd recently signed up with Capitol Records - released a song in which Dominic was given the part of lead singer. His talent as a singer did not go unnoticed and he was subsequently offered a solo record, but he refused the offer in order to stay with the group. One of his most notable roles was the role of "Bumlets" in the 1992 film Newsies. For the role he had to smoke cigarettes which Dominic, ever health-conscious complained about often. While going over some choreography with Michael Jackson, as he had choreographed much of his Dangerous tour, he found he was having difficulty breathing. In October of 1993, Lucero was diagnosed with terminal lymphatic cancer and was unable to continue his dancing or acting career. He died in Los Angeles, California on July 1, 1994 at the age of twenty-six.
